A Medical Practitioner's Perspective on Post-traumatic Grief and Stress Management

Dear Doctors,

Like many in Hong Kong, we are deeply saddened by the recent tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, which has resulted in heavy loss of life and injuries. Even for those not directly affected, the tragedy can leave lasting scars. Exposure to distressing news, stories, or affected individuals may trigger psychological stress in anyone. Not only an ordinary person, sometimes even medical practitioners may not know how to handle when facing a patient being affected by a traumatic event.   

To support medical personnel in recognizing and managing post-traumatic stress and acute grief reactions, we have invited Prof. Linda Lam from the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK, to deliver a talk this Sunday.
